The Brain-Body Connection: Healing Your Mind from the Inside Out

Hello, Hannah here

I loved going to school. Mostly for the environment. I loved being with my friends, back into the routine and structure. It was amazing. The thing I disliked the most was the actual learning part.

Don’t get me wrong, learning is amazing and I love watching my own kids’ eyes light up when they understand a new concept.

The problem for me was I could never understand the lesson.

I don’t remember much of my childhood/teenage years, other than I just needed to get good grades and pass the class. So I did what any person in my situation would do, I guessed a lot, cheated sometimes, and most of the time, I think I just got really really lucky.

Brain inflammation.

You know the feeling, right?

  • Brain Fog
  • Difficulty remembering things
  • Difficulty understanding or processing information
  • The feeling of having a pillow over your face
  • Chronic fatigue

The brain is amazing.

  1. The brain weighs 3 lbs
  2. Uses 20% of the energy produced but is only 8% of the mass
  3. The average size brain is the same measurement of two fists
  4. The brain is most active when we sleep
  5. It constantly changes and adapts to new situations
  6. It generates enough electricity to power a lightbulb
  7. Our brains are also responsible for processing and controlling our emotions.

Even though the brain cannot feel pain itself, it can most certainly be inflamed. When it is inflamed, it has a hard time generating and providing all the things for your body to function properly.

When Your Brain is Off So is the Gut

The gut and the brain have a special relationship with each other. The gut talks to the brain, the brain sends messages to the gut. Here’s the problem, if the brain is inflamed, so is the gut. They are that close in relation to each other that when something affects one, it affects the other.

It’s all connected!

When we are looking at the brain and wondering why this brain fog won’t let up, we really need to look at the gut and find out what is happening.

Here are a few places to start:

  1. Nutrition– Go back to your roots and get on the low-inflammation diet. It’s a good place to start initially to see if maybe it’s your foods that are causing this inflammatory response.
  2. Supplements– There a wide variety of supplements that are used as anti-inflammatories to help reduce the inflammation regardless of where it’s at.
  3. Lymphatic drainage– Are you exercising? Sweating? Your body needs to sweat in order to reduce inflammation and support detoxification.
  4. PEMF– Our state of the art, PEMF (Pulse Electromagnetic Field) bed is great for those that need pain relief, reduce inflammation, and boost energy.
  5. Chiropractic Adjustments– Turn your nervous system back to rest and digest! Adjustments aren’t just for when you are in pain. Adjustments are the best thing when your brain is having a hard time communicating with the rest of your body.

Look at me today: I am back in school.

Fast forward to the present day, I am able to be a full time student again. When I thought I would never be able to get my Bachelor’s Degree, my brain proved me wrong. By healing my gut, decreasing my inflammation (through diet, supplements, and exercise), I’m finally achieving my dream.

A plea with parents: if you notice your child is struggling in school even though they get extra help from the tutors and try really hard to understand; consider their diet, consider their brain. My parents didn’t have the education about health that I do now, and I struggled because of it. But it’s never too late to heal the body, and it’s never too early either.
