What Is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is a medical approach focused on identifying and addressing the root cause of your medical condition. We identify every symptom or diagnosis contributing to your illness to develop a comprehensive profile of the problem.

A diagnosis can be the result of more than one cause. The precise manifestation of each root cause may depend on various factors. For example, some common root causes are

  • Hidden infection, mold exposure and environmental toxin load
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Food reactions
  • Emotional and physical stressors
  • Blood sugar issues and broken metabolisms
  • Lifestyle
  • Genetics

We look at how each root cause plays a role in triggering or aggravating your medical condition. From there, we offer a proper diagnosis, followed by holistic natural care.

A Unique Approach to Health Care

The Healing Center Denver specializes in complex, challenging cases, such as chronic illness and autoimmune disease, using a functional medicine approach. We educate and empower our patients with the tools to radically transform their lives. We take into account your entire system by deciphering the root cause of your illness.

Our care aims to heal and restore function to your body’s systems by providing a full range of therapies, such as

The Three Roots of Dysfunction

There are three fundamental reasons your body may fail you

Something Is Missing That Is Needed

Your body may suffer from a deficiency in nutrients, energy production, hormones, proper nervous system communication, immune function, sleep, or a healthy gut microbiome. A full body exam may reveal deficiencies, allowing you to replenish your body with what it needs to function.

Something Is Invading and Harming Your Body

Pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, chemicals, or toxins may invade your body. Our bodies have innate detox systems to get rid of these sneaky pathogens, but sometimes the body is overwhelmed or compromised, and they’re able to make a home.

Suffering from acute or subacute infections, toxicities, mold exposure, heavy metals, and over-firing of the nervous system may also occur. The good news is we provide a customized detox and pathogen elimination process to remove harmful substances and pathogens.

Vicious Loops Causing Recurrent Problems

A vicious loop is an event in which an action or event is strengthened by its consequence, which starts the cycle all over again. It’s an event pattern that never reaches equilibrium and is in constant motion, causing you emotional, mental, or physical problems. Examples include leaky gut, sleep issues, immune dysregulation, stress response, genetic polymorphism, and gene SNPs.

Our 10 Pillars of Health

The Healing Center Denver promotes and teaches the 10 Pillars of Health for healing, a common sense approach to self-care. It consists of six physical pillars, and four management pillars:

  1. Elimination and detoxification
  2. Proper nervous system function
  3. Energy production and blood sugar
  4. Sleep
  5. Exercise
  6. Infections, heavy metal toxicity, and environmental mold exposure
  7. Nutritional deficiencies
  8. Digestion and healthy gut function
  9. Mood and stress
  10. Gene vulnerability and epigenetics
The best way to reduce health problems is to learn to optimize your health and slow the aging process. We teach patients that healing and supporting the pillars of health will produce a peak state of energy, vitality, strength, stamina, and physical appearance.

A Three-Phase Process

Our process at The Healing Center Denver is thorough, in-depth, and highly customized. Our new patient exam consists of a comprehensive history and record review of the past 5-7 years.

1. Phase One of Care

This phase consists of an initial exam, a report of findings, where we do a detailed discussion of what’s going on with you, and big picture concepts and ideas. We do a comprehensive examination, including evaluating your detailed history, a full medical records review, a neurological screen, structural exam, applied kinesiology, allergy assessments, and a ZYTO bio resonance scan for pathogens. This examination accounts for all possible root causes of your medical condition.

After the exam, we process the data to get a detailed picture of what’s going on with your health. This allows us to create a customized plan to get you out of the situation caused by your symptoms.

Also, we let you know what lab testing needs to be done at this time, and recommend any therapies or modalities specific to your care. A care estimate is emailed to you within two days.

At the first office visit, we put together a customized functional health program specific to you, including any allergies, and how to fix your broken metabolism. You’ll be given a low inflammation diet to follow with challenges, when appropriate. We will also give you specific herbs and nutrients to address what we found.

You’ll be followed weekly to manage and course correct changes to your care. This continues for 3-5 months, depending on how fast you progress, and the severity of your issues.

2. Phase Two of Care

During this stage, we see you less as you rebuild your system.

3. Phase Three of Care

This is the wellness care stage, where we teach you how to take care of your body. We recommend annual lab work to monitor your health situation and be proactive.

Office visits are scheduled whenever anything new shows up, or if appropriate, ongoing regular chiropractic care, massage, or Reiki is part of the supportive protocol.
